1. What is neuropsychology?

The study of brain functioning and its impact on behavior.

2. What is a neuropsychological evaluation?

A series of paper and pencil or computerized tests completed by an individual with either a neuropsychologist or a trained technician assessing brain functioning. These tests are designed to assess such cognitive functions as memory, attention, language, spatial reasoning, processing speed, and executive functioning ability in addition to psychological contributors.

3. How long does a neuropsychological evaluation take?

Several hours, depending on the type of evaluation. An intake interview is conducted as a part of this evaluation.

4. How can I prepare for a neuropsychological evaluation?

Get a good night's rest prior to your exam. Take your medications as prescribed unless there is a concern of grogginess or reduced mental acuity. Bring reading glasses or hearing aids to the appointment. Focus on trying your best rather than worrying about "failing" the tests. Bring snacks for comfort and ask for breaks as needed. Bring a person to the interview who knows you well and can speak to your cognitive health and behavior.

5. What is involved in psychotherapy?

An intake interview is initially conducted which can take 60-90 mins to assess counseling needs, fit, and scheduling. If appropriate, weekly 50-60 min counseling sessions will then follow. Frequency of sessions can then become variable once the therapeutic relationship is established. Only individual counseling services are provided at this time.
